Yesterday was our first full day in St. Petersburg. We met with our school coordinator and she showed us around the city. One of the first things that she did was to show us the ins and outs of the St. Petersburg Metro. We were so surprised when we got on the escalator and realized that we were going down approximately 282 feet below ground. It was definitely the longest escalator that we have ever been on! The St. Petersburg Metro is one of the deepest metro systems in the world.
The metro is an extremely popular means of transportation and we were amazed by the number of people. Our coordinator said that there were about twice as many people during rush hour. We thought it was packed during our ride, so I think we will avoid rush hour!!!
Once we exited the escalator we were treated to beautiful artwork and architecture. The stations exhibit many different types of Soviet architectural decorations and artwork. It was very beautiful and elegant.

Graduate School of Folk Arts Institute
Melissa and I are looking forward to our upcoming journey. We will be studying at the Graduate School of Folk Arts in St. Petersburg. As you can see, we will be surrounded by beautiful architecture. Our apartment will be approximately 1 mile away from our school. We are excited to walk and explore the different areas of the city. Our school is the beautiful orange building.
